ART-GAVE-HER-WINGS

I mentioned in a post a while back that l am exploring the idea of using M.D.F as my base for my creative projects. By doing this l’m able to put hangings on them and they are able to be mounted on a wall space quite easily. They are also a flat sturdy base. This is the first project and l’m very pleased with the way that it has come out.

The main stamped image is from a very creative set of stamps. They are approx 6 inches tall. The name of this stamp is CLEARLY CONSTRUCTED PAPERDOLL pART – THE MANNEQUIN CAFE COLLECTION PLATE 6. Designed by Catherine Moore. This and almost all the materials l have used are available from THATS CRAFTY ON LINE store. It would also give me the opportunity to use my first Prima Mixed Media Doll Tag Pad that l bought before Christmas. These are a time saver!

I have also used 3 other stamp sets which were used to add highlights to the project these were: Prima Stamps called STITCHED STAMPS LINES ~ MIXED MEDIA DOLL – WINGS and an stand by set of stamps from Hero Arts Stamps called STAMP YOUR STORY ~ BRUSH.

LETS MAKE A WALL HANGING!

Now then this time l’m going to try and make it less chatty. I just want to see how the response is when its kept short sharp to the point and not my normal War and Peace Style lol.

P1030719

Well here it is my canvas.

P1030720

The first thing to do is make it ready for working on. Gesso is the perfect medium to give you this surface. You can do White or Black.

P1030721

Then using a good crafting glue secure the selected paper onto the M.D.F panel.

P1030722

I wanted to make the Prima Tag a focal point of the project. [These save so much time!]

P1030726

The stamps that were going to help create this project. Sat there waiting to be used!

P1030730

Using a good quality white stamping card and Vintage Photo Ink Pad.

P1030731

Using Rusty Hinge and a Water Brush l started to colour in and give highlight to the stamped image. A heat gun was needed to heat seal the ink so that it did not carry on ‘bleeding’ into the paper.

P1030748

Flexi Markers are used to go round the edge and by using a light brown to act like a flesh tone.

P1030747

The next step is to secure the arms onto the main body. Using a small hole punch first mark and cut the main body. Then place the arms under the part you have just made holes using a pencil mark lightly where the hole will be for the brad.

P1030749

After the brads have been secured into place. Using your Glossy Accents to just add a few highlights like the buttons and the bow.

P1030737

Now its time to work on our MDF panel. All we are going to use is a Brown Acrylic paint and a Baby Wipe.

P1030738

Place a small amount of paint into your container and start to add water till you have a single cream thickness.

P1030742

By using a baby wipe as a brush your able to give a ‘Wash’ over the edges. If you think you have put to much paint on just take a clean baby wipe and remove some. Your able to do this while the paint is WET. Once dry its a different issue. So practice first if your not to sure.

P1030750

To give a little extra to the base layer just by placing 2 rows of dots using the cosmic shimmer PVA glue can give you just what’s needed. Sometimes as they say LESS IS MORE!

P1030745

Now it time to give the tag a little colour. You can leave it alone, however to pull the project together you do need to ‘Grunge’ up the edges just a little. Don’t go ‘Heavy handed’ as they say again less is more. We are wanting just a hint.

P1030743

To secure the tag onto the base strong double sided tape is needed. Remember that this is going to be a wall hanging so its going to have to be able to stand vertically and not fall away when its in position on a wall.

P1030752

This step is where l made a slight error in judgement. I should have mounted the tag onto the Gold mirror card first. Not like l have done here after l have secured the stamped image onto the tag. Tombow just gives you some ‘wiggle’ time to place your image. Double sided foam is used to raise the stamped image so that the arms can be moved.

P1030753

Like l mentioned it would have been a lot easier to do this step first! Well we all learn from our mistakes.

P1030755

Here the mirror card has been protected from the next stamping that’s going to be done.

P1030754

I wanted to give the impression that the tag had been sewn onto the tag. These stamps from Prima are just wonderful They come in several shapes and styles. This weeks MUST HAVE STAMPS.

P1030756

To secure the tag and stamped image onto the base a good strong clear glue is recommended to give extra bite to the double sided foam which normally doesn’t have the greatest of strength in the glue department. Your thinking LONG TERM  for this project.

P1030759

Selecting your text can make or break your project. When l found these words on my computer from a digi kit that l had bought l then knew almost three quarters of the way into the project what final direction it was going to be and what extra things l needed to do to finish it. These 4 words made the project what it finally became. After printing using a ink pad just ink the edges.

P1030760

The wording then needs some strength. Using the Tombow glue stick secure onto the Gold Mirror card. Then like you did before use the same ink pad to go round the cut edges.

P1030758

This final part was what made the tag become what the wording said. Using some Prima Word Paper Design and the Mixed Media Dolls Wings stamp and then cut the wings out. Again edge them with the ink pad.

P1030761

The last thing to do after the wording has been positioned is to seal the wording in. Using Glossy Accents go over the wording. This will also bring the wording to the fore.

There you have it. The first project l have done using this new format. I am looking forward to seeing what else l can do. I have started getting my MDF canvases ready. So far l have prepared 9. Some 14″ square. Some 18″ square and a few like this off-cuts from the big sheet that l bought and had cut at the DIY Store.

I hope this will inspire you to have a go at this and then it would be exciting to see what you have done. So please send me photos of your projects that you have been inspired by while viewing my blog.

Take care, Keep safe and in this weather keep warm.
